Cost Share Program for Cover Crops
The Mercer County SWCD continues to take signup promoting the use of cover crops. A producer can enroll up to 40 acres of land to seed cover crops this fall. The District will provide 60% assistance for the cost of seed and seeding. Seeding costs are capped at $15/acre which is typical of no-till drilling costs. Cost will be based on the blend of seeds used. Most producers begin with cereal rye but can expand out to using multi-species. In those cases the seed cost will rise. The typical range is $10-$60 per acre for seed, depending on the blend. Funds are limited to fields that have not had cover crops before. Call the SWCD office at 309-582-5153 ext 3, or stop in at 308 SE 8th Ave., Aledo, IL 61231 to enroll!
